This is edible, you're correct on that but it has nasty side effects with alcohol. You cannot drink any alcoholic beverage one week prior and one week after consumming this mushroom.
I have seen this today, on a trail here in Fairbanks.
I sniffed it, and yes it smells edible to me, but I am no expert. I captured one to bring back to the office in case my botanist colleague stops by, and someone else's eyes lit up when she saw it.
they are the best tasting of them all but don't drink beer with them!
Go to the long grassy area past where C street turns into Klatt. There are tons of these there - I've eaten them with no ill effect.
